Strata was hired by the homeowner of this beautiful home for its front exterior porch renovation.
Our goal was to replicate the traditional look of the old wooden columns, capitals, bases, and railings using modern materials. This project needed to take place quickly as the old materials were cracking and rotting, becoming a safety concern for the 100 year old house. This iconic house does not go unnoticed when driving down Sask Crescent West and the owner wanted to ensure the project would provide a low or no maintenance solution to her predicament. We removed the columns, demolished the front wood porch, and installed concrete piles and a suspended concrete platform that now carries all 720 pounds of the 19 foot tall columns. Coming all the way from Georgia, the new 19 foot fibre composite columns should last for another 100 years. We eliminated all wood, and went with a limestone tread for the stairs and a thin limestone tile for the landing. The aesthetic of this historic house that Saskatoon knows and loves was maintained, and now will stand structurally sound for many years to come.
